France-based extra-martial dating app recently announced that it has received 10 million users worldwide of which 20% of its users are Indians.

The Indian users’ professions on extra-martial dating are some high economic backgrounds like engineers, consultants, managers, entrepreneurs and executives.

The concept of the app is a bit twisted for a country like India where monogamy and tradition are preached and appreciated. The basic concept is a simple one, the app is for people who are married and “unfaithful” and want to have affairs outside the marriage. Gleeden authorities mentioned that the concept is derived after a thorough study of reasons for infidelity.

Gleenden was launched in 2009 and appeared in the Indian market in 2017. This was just a year before the Supreme Court discarded section 497 and ruled that adultery was no longer a crime. It however did say that it’s a civil offense that could be grounds for divorce. The five-judge Constitution Bench stated that the colonial-era law is unconstitutional and discriminatory against women.

All in all, seeing this large number of users on the extra-martial dating app, shows how rapidly the concept of monogamy has violating form the country.
