Indian origin student dies in Canada after he was dragged by truck: Report

An Indian-origin student was reported to have died after being struck and dragged by a truck in Canada. Kartik Saini, 20 years old was a student at Sheridan college. According to reports, Kartik Saini came from Haryana’s Karnal. He had come to Canada for studies in August last year.

A statement by the news agency PTI said that the police are yet to identify the victim even as the family hopes the body will be sent to India as soon as possible for burial. “The family is hoping that Kartik’s body will be sent to India as soon as possible for proper burial,” Parveen Saini, the victim’s cousin, was quoted as saying.

As per the reports, The incident took place at the intersection of Yonge Street and St Clair Avenue on Wednesday. According to police, Kartik Saini was on a cycle when he was hit and dragged by a pickup truck in midtown. He was then given emergency services but was declared dead at the scene. The Toronto Police have said the investigation is in process.

“The determination on whether charges are laid or not takes time as the investigators have to conduct a full investigation first,” the police spokesperson said, adding, “This takes time and is not a rushed process.”
