SC mandates authorities to remove the mosque inside Allahabad HC
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the authorities to remove a mosque inside Allahabad HC premises within three months. The Supreme court told the petitioners opposing the demolition that the structure stands on a terminated leasehold property and they cannot claim to continue with it.
The Allahabad High Court order of November 2017 was challenged in the Supreme Court by the Waqf Masjid High Court and the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board. The Allahabad High Court had given three months’ time to move the mosque out of the premises. The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed his petition.
“We give three months time to the petitioners to demolish the structure in question and if the construction is not removed within a period of three months from today, it shall be open to the authorities including the High Court to remove or demolish the same,” the bench said.
