Xi Jinping gets endorsed as the third-time president of China

On Friday, Chinese leader Xi Jinping was endorsed by hand-picked Communist party elites of China for an unprecedented third term as president in a ceremonial vote at the Great Hall of the People. With this, 69-year-old Xi has emerged as China’s most dominant leader in decades, rivalling in stature the iconic Mao Zedong.

Xi Jinping received 2,952 votes, a unanimous endorsement of his presidency, at a choreographed event during the ongoing session of China’s rubber-stamp parliament –the National People’s Congress (NPC). Also, There was no other candidate.

“Xi Jinping, newly elected president of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission of the PRC, made a public pledge of allegiance to the Constitution at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday,” official news agency Xinhua said in a report.
